If someone may be in immediate danger
Do not wait for an Up & About check-in or alert. Contact the emergency services for the person’s location immediately—for example, 911 in the United States—or follow advice from a qualified medical professional.
What Up & About is designed to do
The planned service gives a person two daily windows in which to confirm that they are okay. If a window closes without a check-in, the service is intended to notify the trusted people selected by that person.
The circle can then call, visit or seek appropriate help based on what they know. Up & About delivers a signal; people make the decisions.
What it does not do
- It is not an emergency response or professional monitoring service.
- It does not contact or dispatch police, fire, ambulance or medical personnel on your behalf.
- It is not a medical device and does not detect falls, heart-rhythm problems or other health events.
- It is not a substitute for medical advice, professional care, a medical alert system or calling emergency services.
- It does not guarantee that a missed check-in means there is an emergency—or that a successful check-in means someone remains safe afterward.
Important limitations
Any digital alert system can fail or be delayed. Availability may depend on the phone, battery, internet connection, mobile carrier, notification permissions, operating system, accurate contact information and the availability of circle members.
People may also miss a check-in for ordinary reasons, including travel, sleep, a lost phone or simple forgetfulness. Every alert should be assessed by someone who knows the person and the circumstances.
Never rely on Up & About as the only way to detect or respond to an emergency.
Build a circle that can respond
- Choose at least two trusted people where possible.
- Make sure everyone understands what an alert means and who will act.
- Keep phone numbers, address details and access notes current.
- Agree on an escalation plan: call first, contact a neighbour, visit, and involve emergency services when appropriate.
- Maintain a separate emergency plan for medical or other known risks.
Before the mobile service is released
The public demo is an interactive prototype only. The operational alert service, delivery channels and safeguards will be documented and tested before release. This statement will be updated whenever the product’s capabilities change.
